OVERVIEW
Inspired by their Southern California roots, the couple sought a wedding suite that felt personal and location-driven. They were drawn to an “art deco meets beach” aesthetic as a unifying thread across the wedding and its surrounding events. The pair requested a postcard invitation in place of a formal suite.
The Problem
The challenge was to translate a sense of place into a familiar yet elevated format—combining vintage postcard references with a hand-drawn depiction of the venue location to create a wedding suite that felt both intimate and distinctive.
The Strategy
Set in La Jolla, the main invitation draws inspiration from the region’s dramatic coastal cliffs, pairing bright, dynamic color with a modern illustrative style to evoke vitality and celebration.
For the bride’s bachelorette weekend, I took a similar approach. Set in San Luis Obispo, the imagery reflects the character of the destination while responding to the event’s theme (a 1960s South Beach-inspired murder mystery). I drew a stylized illustration of the bride, developed as a custom logo mark for the weekend.
Further Deliverables
For the wedding day and accompanying weekend events, I was tasked with designing signage and menus that coordinated with the day-of floral arrangements and table linens. While maintaining a cohesive vintage-inspired style, the design introduced a slightly evolved color palette and illustrative approach to distinguish the wedding day from the broader suite while preserving visual continuity.
I designed and illustrated the welcome signage, escort charts, menus, and cocktail napkins with a bold, trend forward sensibility. The typography was selected for its modern feel, subtly balanced with vintage-inspired character to complement the overall aesthetic.
