H5 Ventures is a Houston-based commercial real estate firm specializing in brokerage, consulting, development, and mixed-use projects. Rooted in a family led approach, the company is operated by Nick and Anna Hernandez alongside their three children, each contributing expertise from adjacent industries.

the problem

The founder wanted a cohesive logo and brand identity that would communicate its distinct position as a family-led business within a corporate landscape, highlighting its core values. Real estate development branding often relies on generic architectural imagery and aesthetics, presenting an opportunity to develop a more distinctive and differentiated identity.

Initial Logo sketches

After discussing several potential directions for the logo, I began developing a series of sketches to represent the concept of a commercial mixed-use space. Using a line drawing provided by the client as a foundation, I explored a range of compositions that integrate building forms and green space, reflecting how these elements would coexist within the property.

After reviewing the initial sketches, the client expressed interest in exploring a new direction that emphasized the number five, representing the five members of the family business. The symbolic significance of this number strongly resonated with the founder, who wanted the logo to reflect this meaning more prominently with a bolder, graphic approach.

While developing logo concepts centered around the number five, I revisited the idea of a family tree. This led to sketch of a tree comprised of five lines, each representing a member of the family. The symbol conveys shared roots and organic growth through collaboration, with each branch reflecting an individual perspective. Together, they create a unified and balanced composition—a living symbol of unity, purpose, and progress.

The circle surrounding the tree embodies continuity and connection, values that guide each and every project. The company operates as an integrated network of ideas, founded in trust and driven by creativity.
